About Cat Dolphin – Contemporary Australian Artist

Life is full of seasons, and sometimes the quiet ones shape us the most. Things have been a little still here for a while, and for good reason. Cat has been giving her time and heart to what matters most — family. After supporting her mum through a long period of ill health, she chose to pause her art practice to be fully present. No regrets, just love.

Now, with a renewed sense of purpose, Cat is returning to her greatest passion — painting. Thank you to everyone who has waited with patience and kindness. New artworks, new stories and new creative adventures are on their way.

A Life Shaped by Place, Colour and Curiosity

Cat grew up in country Victoria, later spending most of her life in suburbia, always dreaming of a breezy home near the ocean — a vision that continues to inspire her art. She gathers ideas from long walks with her miniature dachshund, exploring landscapes, textures and tiny details that fill her with wonder.

Her paintings draw from memory, emotion and subconscious recall, creating contemporary scapes and figures that feel both familiar and dreamlike. Cat’s work is known for its intuitive mark making, layered symbolism, bold colour, collage elements, and quiet storytelling woven through every canvas.

 Artistic Practice

Working primarily in acrylic on canvas, Cat also incorporates mixed media and paper works. She has spent more than a decade exploring alternative techniques, following her instincts to create pieces that bring her joy — and invite viewers to experience their own personal meaning.

Her paintings are built in layers, creating history, texture and depth. She shifts scale, direction and perspective, balancing bold narratives with small vignettes that reward slow looking.

Cat is a self-represented contemporary Australian artist, with collectors across Australia and internationally. She is open to the right future gallery partnership and continues to be active in group exhibitions and creative collaborations.

 Background & Creative Path

Cat has a diverse creative and professional foundation. She has studied fine art, fashion design, sales and management, and has worked in the wholesale apparel industry for over 20 years. She is a wife, mother, daughter and sister — roles that deeply inform the warmth and emotional connection present in her paintings.

And yes — Cat Dolphin is her real name.
